Hot Topics
The hot topic of conversation for our clients has been Disaster Recovery. This of course has been brought about by the earthquakes in Christchurch, which have left a lot of businesses struggling with little or no access to their computers and servers.
Quay has several cost effective options for disaster recovery including a great off site backup service called BlackBox Backup http://www.blackboxbackup.co.nz/. Just $0.80 cents a GB secures an off site backup service which stores data both here in Wellington, and in Auckland. Quay has been so impressed by the robustness of this service that we have implemented this as part of our own disaster recovery plan.
Also in our DB portfolio is Shadow Protect, a very cost effective piece of software that once installed on your Server (Desktop options also available) will back up to an external USB drive or PC. The software creates an image of your server/desktop that can then be installed to dissimilar hardware or booted as a virtual machine, making it extremely effective. The engineers have been testing this and can recover a server in under half a day.

.jpg) Over the last couple of months we have had some new staff start. We are very pleased to welcome Kelvin Frame as an Account Manager, Kelvin has 20 year's experience in the IT industry and has an awesome sense of humour (needed when you work with this crazy bunch of people).

 Also joining the team is Cheryl MacMillan - Cheryl is joining our Engineering team, leaving the Army after working with them for five years. As you know the Army is a lot larger than the small to medium businesses that Quay specialises in, but having worked in East Timor etc, Cheryl is very quick on her feet and is taking to Quay and our clients like a duck to water.

Wellington After-Care Association
We have chosen to support Wellington After-Care as our charity of choice and we aim to make sure that they have all the tools that they need. This locally based charity does an amazing job. They operate a number of community-based services that assist adults with intellectual and/or psychiatric disabilities, by providing appropriate learning programmes, activities and support. Their programmes are based on expressed clients needs and encourage independence for a better quality of life in the area of leisure, home and work. Altogether, Wellington After-Care provides seven suburban-bases services, three Mental Health Centres - new Avenues, Horizons, and Connect South, two Day Services for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities, Ace House and Thumbs UP and a Transition Service - Expect Success. Mardy Straeter (Service Manager) said recently that we had saved their bacon.
